Breakin Science

Brand new promoters on the scene Breakin' Science took to one of the biggest rave venues in London on Saturday 23rd February, the Rex in Stratford, East London. On a bitterly cold and windswept night we took off down the M4 and journeyed across the capital to the east side of London to witness what promised to be one hell of a party held in this past cinema / theatre turned party venue.

With no queue in sight and managing to walk straight in to the Rex was a huge bonus as it meant escaping the clutches of the icey cold wind that was battering us on our short walk from the car park to the venue.

As we walked through into the main auditorium we were greeted by the sounds of the mighty Mickey Finn and fast up-and-coming MC Eksman. We were astounded by the effort that had gone into the décor and production here at the Rex. From the lights to the lasers, the video screens to the 'spikey' inflatables and wall décor, you could tell no expense had been spared tonight.

Mickey played an educated set that included many crowd winning favourites including 'Spaced Invader' and new numbers from Urban Takeover including Rascal & Klone's 'The Reprise'. The arena wasn't as packed as I have seen on it on other occasions but then the evening was early. Stepping up next to take over the midnight hour was the long standing partnership of Kenny Ken and MC Fearless.

If you made it to the infamous 'bouncing' balcony on this night you would have been 'wowed' by the tremendous light and laser show. I don't think I've seen a fancier display from just two lasers that I can remember, then when the female dancers descended on to the main stage, the guys stopped dead in their tracks with chins hitting the floor and girls looked on in envy! What a show that was! Kenny ripped it up with his flavoursome Mix & Blen' style.

Tonight boasted a massive line-up of DJs both in terms of drum & bass and old skool. Show times of the DJs seemed to run smoothly and many emcees descended on the night teaming up for some back-to-back business. Just as Kenny finished his set off a high-spirited Jack Frost bounded across the stage to greet Fearless and Moose who had now also arrived. Taking over where Kenny had left off he entered with the new V treats and was scratching an intro (never heard the Frosty scratching before).

He played a wicked smooth and jazzy set as only he knows how but maybe a little better delivered at a more twilight hour. Nicky Blackmarket, Andy C and Hype all followed up to deliver 'more fire' as IC3, MC MC and Skibadee especially helped to raise 'the roof on fire'. The only slight drawback was the under-attendance but the amount of effort that had gone into this first Breakin' Science promotion was unrivaled and there was nothing but good vibes all night long.

Breakin' Science comes back to the Stratford Rex and helps celebrate MC Shabba D's 25th birthday on 18th May. Just by looking at the line-up you know promoter Joe's promises of this being bigger and better are sure enough… DJ Hype, Mampi Swift, Bad Company, Brockie, Randall, Mickey Finn, Bryan G, Shy FX, Phantasy, Profile & Manic. MC's Shabba D, Det, IC3, GQ, Navigator, Ragga Twins, Riddla D, Fatman D, Eks Man & Junior Dangerous.

Room two flings down the best in old school with Slipmatt, Devious D, Demolition Crew, Squirrel, Tribal 2, Filthy Dirty Rich, Benny V & Triptonite. The third room will showcase 'stars of the future' with the finalists from the original 200 plus entrants that applied for the last event.
