Club Colosseum
Club
Colosseum's newest night is Traffic, organised by the in-house
<<promotions
>> Billie Jo and promoters Future
Thinkin. The ethos behind this new night is to provide a platform
for up and coming DJs, MCs, vocalists and other musicians that
are just about to break through and give them a chance to take
centre stage in the mammoth venue for a Saturday night. "With
all due respect to the originators, I believe that as the scene
is so healthy there is plenty of room for more artists to break
through, and with such a wide variety of d'n'b / hip hop styles
emerging, there needs to be more variety in the selection of DJs
at events," says co-promoter Billie Jo.
Billie
Jo also feels that a return can be made to the days when a night
can be popular without having to use a barrage of big name DJs
to fill up the flyer and sees a rising backlash to this trend.
"Working for the club, and knowing other promoters and club
managers it is well noted that club attendance's are currently
at their lowest for several years. Having spoke to many people
about this, especially those over 23/24 - I've had confirmed what
I have been thinking for a while - having big names doesn't necessarily
equate to a good night out."
Traffic's
door tax is very reasonable too: a fiver if you email info@clubcolosseum.com
in advance, with a Time Out Privilege Pass, or NUS card, otherwise
7 pounds with flyer, 10 pounds without. Billie Jo enthuses that
Traffic is dedicated to the music and confesses that she still
prefers the outdoor events that don't necessarily attract the
headliners and which she has coincidentally been promoting in
the Surrey region for the last 7 years. Along with plans to put
on more of these outdoor events over the summer don't forget to
check the main event Traffic every first Saturday of the month.
