Loveslap Records

Loveslap Recordings was founded in 1999 by a west coast / east coast partnership of Jesse Singer from San Francisco and Brooklyn based Charles Spencer. The imprint was conceived out of a "mutual devotion to the music and a desire to explore and evolve quality house in it's various forms". 'Belle et Bete' started off the imprint and set the blueprint grooves that Loveslap would follow. The label aims to reach out to a variety of tastes by including both a deep, melodic track combined with a harder, more driving track on each twelve. This is what they call a 'love' side and a 'slap' side!

With a huge roster of artists on Loveslap there truly is something for everyone. Representing the deep and delicious grooves are Julius Papp and Miguel Migs to K Hand and Gemini on call for the more pumping mixes. The much loved Ra Soul, Brooklyn's Jaymz Nylon, pianist turned producer Charles Spencer, Moulton Studio's Jay-J, label boss Miss Spank (Jesse Singer), San Fran resident Mauricio Aviles and Detroit devotee Mike Huckaby round off the multi-talented roster.

The live element introduces another wave of colourful musicians including sax veteran Jorge Sylvester, talented quadralinguist Yshara, Chicago vocalist Jackie Green, Earth, Wind and Fire trumpeter Elmer Brown, flamenco guitarist Shawn Kenner and a plethora of others.

The family atmosphere at Loveslap looks to nurture new up-and-coming talent as well as support the creative development of established producers. In 2001 newcomers to the label were Sean Smith, Nick Santillan, DJ V from Chicago and keyboard player for popular band Poi Dog Pondering 'Egg Germ'. This year the label is looking to break the duo that is 'Mr A.L.I.' and sessions are also lined up with renowned producers Mark Grant and Chez Damier.

With the entire back catalogue comprising of vinyl since Loveslap's inception CDs will be on the cards for this year, the first one mixed by DJ Julius Papp. Releases out at the start of the year included Nick Santillian's 'Of Your Body', also featuring a remix from Jay J, newcomers Mr A.L.I. touched with 'Rial' and in April label co-owner Charles Spencer twists and tweaks Nick Santillian and Chez Damier's 'Santo Al Amor' and following that is 'Adore' again by Nick Santillian.
